NASA Goddard Space Flight Center
Advantus provided QA/QC and commissioning at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD. Advantus assisted with schedule development while ensuring compliance with NASA scope of work, reviewing and documenting contract performance, monitoring jobsite safety, attending and conducting job meetings, performing field investigative services, and checking as-built drawings. Additional duties included coordinating with and advising NASA Project Managers on a variety of topics, such as construction administration, progress payments, condition of government equipment, recommendation on changes in scope, maintenance assessments, life cycle cost analysis, Owner’s training, commissioning, punch list items, and project closeout.
Projects during this time frame included small and large-scale architectural and interior renovations, pavement and landscaping improvements, and sanitary and storm upgrades. There were countless mechanical (HVAC), plumbing, and electrical upgrades, including the oversight of major steam and chilled water distribution upgrades. Advantus oversaw boiler and chiller plant overhauls, control upgrades, and an energy savings program.
Advantus was also intimately involved in the design phase of NASA Goddard’s latest laboratory building, B37 or the Instrument Development Facility (IDF). The IDF building will provide an environment where scientists and engineers collaborate throughout the development and implementation of spacecraft-born instruments. Advantus was the design phase commissioning agent for this project, which achieved LEED Gold. Advantus was an active participant in review at each step of the design process.
